  • No audio with Blu-ray output

Hello - Last November I posted a few posts about being unable to get proper settings for encoding that would be compatable with EncoreCS4 and all of the blu-ray coasters I had made. Since then I have purchased a Pioneer BD-RW drive, upgraded from Edius 4.5 to Edius5 (that had more options for encoding?) I felt pretty good -- yes my pocket book was lighter - but I would finally have a blu-ray workflow and be able to move projects off the system.

So now with all of my new options, I've encoded the MPG-2 in Edius. The MPG2 comes into Encore without too much time (some, but not excessive) - Encore does some transcoding of it's own and it burns blu-rays......... with NO SOUND only video! I have tried both settings PCM and DOLBY while encoding in Edius with the same result. PLEASE! help me before I completely go insaine! I should have had this project off the system last week Thursday. Adobe has a 24 hour return support and now that it's the weekend I'm sunk. Does anyone know what might be the cause of no sound?

I'm no expert on bluray, but if you created Elementary streams for your MPEG-2 output and only imported the video component into your bluray project, then you would have no sound.

In this case, try encoding as a Program Stream, where Video and Audio are multiplexed into the one output. Hope this helps.

      No sound no blu-ray

In Edius I used the following preset:
I choose MPG; the Advanced "enable conversion"; which gave me quite a few options. I chose the 1920x1080 option linear PCM. I also tried the 1440x1080 @29.97i but that setting bailed on me in Encore with error message [HDMVMovie.cpp-981]

The audio and video are together in one file and the audio plays with the video on microsoft media player - but once it goes into encore there is no sound. It seems like I am missing some setting or something in Encore but I think I've clicked on everthing and every option Encore has.

It was suggested to me to create a separate WAV in Edius and just lay that under the video and force it that way - but would like to find out what I am doing wrong so that I don't have to do that.

Just a couple of questions first -

        a) How do you determine there was no sound from the Blu-Ray movie you made? Play back on what hardware?

        b) Do you have a proper audio edit program (Sound Forge, iZotope, etc)?

If I am not wrong, Blu-Ray uses AAC.

          Sound

I double clicked on my encoded file and when the Microsoft play came up it played - so I know the file had sound before Encore. Then when I burned the blu-ray I played the blu-ray disc on my Power DVD8 on the computer, and the PS3 in my home. Neither had any sound.

Sooo --- I was able to finally get in touch with Guy Graphics and he suggested I make a separate WAV from the MPG2 and import separately --- and then I had sound in Encore. Everything sounded good and checked out - BUT when I went to burn the image file I got the error message:
          ...\source\HDMVMovie.cpp-981
I have been all over Adobe's website but cannot fine this error message.

I AM BESIDE MYSELF! At this point I am ready to throw out ENCORE and purchase something else that will work. Does DVDit work well with Edius? What about making an H-264 from my timeline? What is the difference between H-264 and MPG2 in quality? I have a 1 hr 50 minute program.

              Colleen,

Sorry - I am not able to help you here ... I don't have blu-ray burner here. No local demand for that. I don't have a single client who ask for HD material in Blu-Ray so far. Mostly, it will be in Windows Media, QuickTime, etc ... So, you will have to seek help from other people here.

Do you have PC3? if so use the preset on the sticky of PC page, if not just make an HQ avi of your timeline, and then load that into Encore and let Encore do all the encoding, quality is not as good as PC3 but it will work because I've done it before, I have not use Edius to encoded MPEG2 HD because it puts out program stream and I don't feel like a work around to make a elementary stream from it, most authoring program don't accept program stream (video&audio combine) BTW this is with Encore CS3, I don't have 4.
