  • problem capturing in 5.0 via camera

have a friend with a new dell quad core trying to capture footage off a pd170 thru firewire port. theres a front and rear firewire port.he has tried both and camera isnt recognized, so no capture.
since i dont have 5.0 yet to walk him thru this., could someone thats up on the 5.0 version give me the exact steps to tell him from once he plugs in firewire cable from camera , so he can capture, hes using vista.
does it matter using front or back??
step by step would be great
    thanks
    jim

he would use ohci as he doesnt have a card in computer

Tell him to install service pack 1
Then ask him if widows sees the camera.
If so he will see it in EDIUS.

I don't know if he has service pack one ..I just looked in my crystal ball but it was foggy.

Better ask him if his vista has service pack one.
If it does ask him if Vista sees the camcorder.

Because if Vista does not see the camcorder we can write all day how it should work in Edius but it will never work in that scenario as you might imagine. :)
