For editing in Edius - there is absolutley no advantage to converting MP4 to MXF wrappers as Edius can unwrap them both and work with the MPEG 2 directly

    Hope this clears things up
You guys got my brain totally mixed up now ... isn't MP4 - MPEG4? I thought MP4 is video encoded (compressed) by MPEG4 algorithm (H.264). Yes? If this is wrong, what is the correct extension for video encoded by H.264 (MPEG4) then?

Hi Anton. What version of the Sony software are you running?
I'm running version 2.00 (released July 2008), which I think is a big improvement over the original version that shipped with my EX1. And it allows thumbnail and clip preview which saves me importing clips I don't want. And with the dual preview windows I can preview thumbnails from the SxS cards or on my HDD's simultaneously from within the one program, and also copy from the SxS to my HDD's and/or directly into my Edius Bin.

        I am using 2.50.0.0

I don't need to see proxy clips because I need everything I shoot, that is why I shoot it in the first place :)

lots of people think MP4 is 'kinda' MP3 but for video but it's not. MP4 is more akin to AVI - its a video container, not a codec specification.

The most common codec used with MP4 IS h.264 and hence the confusion.
BUT that doesnt mean another codecs cant be used inside MP4 and indeed SONY EX use MPEG2 inside MP4.

This is why other NLE's which can't unwrap MP4 files can read EX1 MPEG2 files once they have a nice new shiny MXF wrapper.

Who said going digital will make things easier!!! Pah!
