Lost firewire output

I have Edius 4.51 installed on a Dell Latitude laptop. It has always been perfect but just recently while in the middle of an edit I suddenly lost firewire output, just like that! It still captures perfectly but there in no signal out at all so I can't even watch the footage back and when I try to 'export to tape' I get the message 'There was an error with export'

I've re-installed Edius, unistalled and re-installed the firewire card and nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas please?
