  • Improving HD realtime edit preformance V5.x

I know it's been mentioned before but after reading some recent threads I thought I'd make a new entry and inform anyone new to HD editing about the advantages of editing HD footage on an SD timeline.

This gives a huge performance boost- especially with 3D PP and such like.

Once all editing is done simply change the project to a HD timeline and export as normal.

Saves me a huge amount of time not having to render laggy segments.

Altho some have said it can throw 3D PP placement and titles etc off I have not experienced any of that. I edit in PAL flavour so don't know if that has anything to do with frame size changes?

Same here, Capture HQ Fine on the fly, edit (often) on a SD timeline, only when project finished switch to HD and render out.

Maybe it's a PAL vs NTSC issue ??

please explain the settings and the way it is done , so you start in a 16x9 sd setting once project is finished you creat a new hd project and import the project into the hd presets?

      thanks

I use Edius 5.01 to capture HQ Fine on the fly so the project settings have to HD 1440x1080i (in my case)

Then on the time line there is an Floppy disc Icon to save the project, click on the arrow located next to it, Select Project Settings, at the left bottom you select Change Current Settings, Window pops up, Select SD PAL 720x576 50i 16x9 and edit away, when project is done repeat the same, and re-change project settings to HD 1440x1080i and render out your needed format.

For NTSC of course you follow NTSC settings with the appropriate resolution, as I dont have progressive footage i can't test but should work the same .......

Note : if you make Presets of various Project settings it is even faster and easier to switch between them.

Bearing in mind that if you use a spark card with HDMI to an external HD monitor you will lose the picture working in SD.

Lose the picture? Quality? or all together? The HD storm still works with SD projects......just not progressive ones......

SD output from HDMI depends on the monitor some work and some dont.
Dont you find problems with titles and the layout tool when you switch from SD back to HD for an HD output?

It also depend if you Monitor supports sd over HDMI.
SOme monitors don't. It is better to use the monitor app to query the monitor for its supported resolutions and frequencies.

Just to confirm that with my set up any way if I set the project to be SD I get no picture on my monitor. If I set the project to HD and then import and work on SD files I get picture on my monitor.
