ADVC55 VHS video recorder to Abode Essentials

Can you tell me if it is possible to record analogue VHS tapes from a VHS player onto my PC using a ADVC55.
I have been able to do it from my Hi8 camcorder but cannot do it from my VHS player/recorder

I am using Adobe Premiere Essentials 4 on PAL

It's entirely possible to do this. How's the condition of the source footage? Is the source footage macrovision protected? Does the VCR have a faulty composite video output port (or is your cable damaged?)
