ADVC-HD50 : No HDCP Support ?

Hello, I've read that the ADVC-HD50 has no HDCP support. What does it mean ? That if a movie is copy-protected, I will get no output ?

Correct - the ADVC-HD50's red light will not turn green.

:( why not support HDCP ??? hdmi support for a capture device is nearly useless if you don't support hdcp. I fear you won't sell a lot of cards.

Because HDCP is for protecting copyrighted material. It's a total non-issue for the intended use of the product. I sense a locked thread.

Don't fear, I'm using the ADVC-HD50 for legal purposes ! However I am allowed to make backup copies of HDCP protected movies that I have BOUGHT, aren't I ? I goes the same for DVDs and VHS'. That's why I purchased the ADVC-HD50 which was very very expensive in my country (more than 900 euros, taxes included).

I think Canopus should allow to bypass the HDCP protection.

And I think Thomson also has the right to not get involved with violations of copyrights held with protected content.

Given we have an entire division set up to combat digital piracy, and that Technicolor is another part of the company, it's not inexcusable.
