Capturing a DVD (110)

I use the 110 with Pro Tools as a video converter to a projector for viewing dv files while mixing audio. The system has worked for me greatly over the last several months.

My question is this. A client came in with a DVD, not a QT file, or DV file, just a DVD that would play automatically when inserted into a dvd player.

I needed the file, to put into Pro Tools, so initially I tried Mactheripper, but nothing showed up, then I tried playing the file in my mac dvd player and it wouldn't play, so finally I put the disk into a standard dvd player and it worked fine, audio and everyhting.

so... I connected the yellow, white and red cables from the dvd player to the 110 ins and tried to record to Quicktime pro, nothing. then to imovie. at least the picture showed up but it ran vertically while playing. I tried flipping all the dip switches on the bottom, nothing.

am I doing something wrong? I though this was possible.

The DVD definitely works normally when viewed on a television monitor, right?

The ADVC110 should accept an incoming signal just fine from a DVD player, provided that the DVD has no macrovision protection on it.

The disc is NTSC, yes?

as far as I know, the disk is ntsc, were in america and ive gotten files from this editor before, so i'm assuming it's not pal. don't know how to check though.

and yeah, it plays fine in the dvd player right to a monitor, sound and video. no menu however, it just starts right away.

why do you think the horizontal lines would run vertically.

about 5 months ago i tried importing a video from a camcorder, via mini fw cable into the canopus and i saw picture, so i'm thinking the issue isn't with the 110

Simple enough, try another DVD, or test a different analogue device with the ADVC.

Did you power cycle the ADVC110 after flipping a dip switch (unplug unit, wait several seconds, plug back in)?
