  • Can I use the ADVC 300 to capture videos from newer Camcorders?

I see that the ADVC 300 also have a firewire in port that allows one to connect it to camcorder. So in the future if I buy a newer camcorder lets say a sony Camcorder, can I still use the ADVC 300 to capture the video from the camcorder?

Typically you should connect DV camcorders directly to your PC for capture/editing. You shouldn't use the ADVC300 for DV signal passthrough, since it will more than likely cause a device conflict with your NLE.

      ADVC - Video 8

On the same thread are there any advantages / disadvantages to capturing old data from Video 8 format via the ADVAC 300 ?

Shouldn't be any different really. S-Video's properties contain two channels of video signal, but ultimately your product will still be transcoded in the same way as any composite video signal would.
