Is the ADVC110 converting my DV IN connection?

Is the ADVC110 converting my DV IN connection to analog and then back to digital to the DV out to my computer?

If this is the case dose this degrade the signal in any way or would I get better results just connecting my FireWire DV out from my camcorder to my FireWire connection on my computer?

The ADVC can only operate in one mode at a time, so no. However, you should avoid attaching more than one DV device to the bus at a time as doing so can cause unpredictable results as most software won't know which device to communicate with.

No. At best, it would just pass the DV signal through without conversion or degradation (just think of it as a DV extension cord), but this actually isn't a supported function since your computer will most likely have difficulty discerning between your camera and ADVC-110 as separate input devices when daisy-chained in that fashion. Your best bet for error-free operation is to plug one FireWire-based DV device into your computer as needed.
