New Thomson Grass Valley ADVC-HD50 Provides Unique Video Conversion from HDMI Camcorders
Powerful Standalone Conversion Device Brings HD Flexibility to the Professional Videography Market
Paris, France/Nevada City, California, February 28, 2008 — Building on the tremendous success of its Thomson Grass Valley™ ADVC (Advanced Digital Video Converter) family, Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS) announces the launch of the ADVC-HD50, bringing high-definition (HD) flexibility into the professional videography and prosumer marketplace for the first time.
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is quickly becoming a common interface, featured on many new HDV and AVCHD camcorders. The ADVC-HD50 converts the uncompressed HDMI HD video and audio to the HDV format and outputs the signal via FireWire (IEEE 1394) for use in any HDV-compatible nonlinear editor. The ADVC-HD50 can be used with both Mac and PC-based editors.
"High quality camcorders and powerful editors like EDIUS® and Final Cut Pro mean that videographers and prosumer users are now capable of producing excellent video productions, and are demanding greater flexibility with connectivity than ever before," said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President of Thomson's Broadcast & Professional Solutions business unit.. "We see the results of this trend in the remarkable growth for the entire ADVC family, which grew in sales by 20 percent in 2007. Although it brings powerful HD functionality to the ADVC family, the ADVC-HD50 is incredibly easy to use, equipped with simple front panel status display, with all connectivity at the rear.
Pricing and Availability
The ADVC-HD50 will be available in April 2008, at a suggested retail price of $999 (€699).
