  • Edius Crash whith ADVC1394

    Hey,

I have always been using a ADVC1394 in combination whith Edius(since vesion3.0) to get a External output to a monitor. (through my camera).
But since the upgrades to 4.5x I have the problem that Edius Crashes.
It only happens when I place clips from the BIN to the timeline, and it is at random times.

I have already done several things, trying to solve the problem, like installing the newest Nvidia drivers, Newest Intel drivers for my Motherboard, changing overlay settings, but until now noting helped.

I know certainly that it is the ADVC1394 that is causing the "crash" , because when i disable it everything goes well!

At the download section of Canopus the ADVC1394 is named as supported hardware, but when I run the update, there isn't a separate driver for the ADVC1394.
The latest driver I can find on the download section for my ADVC1394 is 08/07/2003.

I hope somebody can help me!

You don't need a driver for the ADVC1394 - it uses the Operating Systems' native IEEE-1394 driver.

Are you running Windows XP with the latest Service Pack? (ie. SP2)

        KH,

I am running windows XP (home) with SP2.
The computer isn't connected to internet, so it doesn't get anymore updates.

          Ok. Two things to check:

          1. Do you have any onboard FireWire ports and/or devices attached to them

          2. What are the current OHCI settings for EDIUS? (Settings > Hardware Settings)

            Dear KH,

            1. Yes, my MB has onboard firewire, but these are disabled.

            2. hardware settings are:
            -RTbuffers* 128MB
            -DV format* DV
            (enable realtime DV output)
            -Analog audiomonitor*channel 1/2
            -Setup level*0IRE

            DV devicesettings: Default

            Video overlay settings:
            -DirectDraw overlay
            -Field

Does this crash happen with any type of clip you put on the timeline? Can you at least create a colourbar clip on the timeline?

It happens random, It goes well for a hunderd times, and than bang!
Another times it happens immedaitely after restarting Edius!

                Type of clips doesn't matter.
On this moment I have only AVI & Stills in the BIN.

I can created a colourbar direct on timeline, or in the BIN without any problems.

You say you're using the board for analog output right? ADVC1394 was analog input only..

Sure it's not an ACEDVio? In any event, I'm not sure what could be triggering a fault directly related to the board, without it being a physical problem with the board itself (since it's intermittent and only happening as you say, when the board is enabled in device manager).

When you disable the board, are you disabling the entry under 'IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers' in Win XP's device manager? Or the one under 'Imaging Devices' ('AVC Compliant DV Tape Recorder/Player')?

OP said they're getting output through their camera so I assumed it was FireWire out to camera, then analog out from camera.

But something else comes to mind... Do you have the 4-pin power connection on the board?

                      KH, BH,

                      It certainly is a ADVC1394.
My camera is connected by firewire and than analog out to monitor.

The onboard firewire is disabled from the Bios, and when I disable the ADVC1394 under 'IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers' .

BH, I wil check tonight if the power connector is on the board or has come loss.

                        BH,

I did check as you said .

[But something else comes to mind... Do you have the 4-pin power connection on the board?]

But I can't find any power connection on the board!
I looked in the manual, and also there they don't speak about any power connection.

Then you definitely have an ADVC1394, which you already said though. :)
The later ACEDVio has a power connector - people often get them confused.

You may want to try re-enabling your motherboard's FireWire bus and try the ADVC on there, just to make sure it's not something to do with the ADVC itself.

You said your onboard FireWire is disabled in the BIOS... Try enabling it and connect the ADVC to the onboard FireWire bus.
