  • ADVC110 keeps switching

I have a new Canopus ADVC110 after my ADVC100 went belly up. I set the jumper on the bottom to startup in analog mode. It does that. At various times when I stop a capture or other times (not during an actual capture) it will switch to digital. I then have to go to the unit and physically push the grey button to switch it back to analog. Why won't it stay analog? I have the 6-pin Firewire connector on the unit connected to a 6-pin Firewire connector on the PC. I am using the RCA Audio IN connectors and the S-Video IN connectors. Any idea?

First off, make sure your PCI FireWire card is providing enough power to power the ADVC. Insufficient power can cause all sorts of random behavior.

Beyond that, what program are you using for capture? It might be that the program is sending some commands to the ADVC to switch it. You can try WinDV as a simple capture program. It doesn't do anything fancy, so it's great for testing.

I am currently using Sony Vegas Pro 8.0. I believe it is indeed doing this, but not sure why. When I click pause or stop, it goes to the digital setting, when I click play, it sets it back to analog.

Try turning off Device Control or Monitor Output in Vegas?

If you are using WinDV, uncheck the checkbox between the Config and Capture buttons -- that turns off device control in WinDV.
