    Dear BernH, Dear Anton
Many thanks indeed for the fast response. I will evaluate the alternatives and move on accordingly.
Guess this product direction concludes this Post for EDIUS

Use WinDV (it is free) and far better than EDIUS DV Capture as it captures using Microsoft DV Codec so anyone can play the captured files

Firewire capture has been removed from Edius X. You will have to use Edius 9 or earlier for firewire, or some other software that supports firewire.

    Dear Anton
Currently I am struggling with the inability to set up the appropriate HW Device setting for my Canopus ADVC-300 within EDIUS X Pro because the setup wizard only offers me "DirectShow" as a Capture Device.
Other options such as "Generic OHCI" (which was available on earlier EDIUS Versions) or SHX-E1 recommended by a senior forum member are not available in my EDIUS Pro application.
Would you kindly advise whether this is a known limitation or whether I need to reinstall EDIUS X or whether you have any other idea how to make the stream coming in from my VHS Player via ADVC-300 visible within EDIUS X ?
The basic connection from the VHS Player via ADVC to my Laptop appears to be working, as I can preview the videos by using the "Picture Controller 300" Software which came with the Canopus ADVC-300.
    Many thanks in advance
    Mark

Would you know what is the difference is in result between selecting Yes and leaving as No (default)
anything coming in via firewire is 16bit at most, so no need to convert

    Hi Anton,

Thanks for reply but I don't think you understood my request.

I had no problem after I clicked on the link in your post. Digitised my VHS tape into Edius perfectly using ADVC300 but because it's something I now do about once a decade I thought I would create an SOP and in it reference your link, just in case I need to refer to it sometime again in future.
I saw on the forum many posts from people having similar problems and I thought posting your link specifically under this subject header would help others find it quickly. I did many, many forum searches over many days before I eventually stumbled across your post.
I'm after the link showing the Edius Device Preset settings.

Win 10 does not support Firewire 400, it only supports Firewire 800

so you need to download the legacy firewire driver for Win 10

the legacy driver is built in to Win7, I have no idea about Win8 because I bypassed that creation

Installing Legacy Firewire Driver to allow video capture in Windows 7 using Grass Valley Edius

started a topic ADVC300 settings for Edius

    ADVC300 settings for Edius

Recently I had to use my ADVC300 and was going nowhere fast until I found a post from Anton providing a link showing relevant Edius screenshots. It got me going but I cannot find the forum post again.
Have been to Anton'w web site but can't put my finger on it. Appreciate if someone (or Anton) can provide it.
