  • New ADVC-300 video 'black-out' problems

I got a brand new ADVC-300 today 'upgrading' from a Dazzle which worked fine if one does not mind crappy video.

I hooked it up out of the box without going thru the manual and tried to digitize a VHS tape using iMovie 6 via Firewire on a 2.7g dual G5 Powermac running Tiger (10.4.11). It worked, but every 5 sec or so the picture goes very dark for a while, then comes back for 5 sec, goes dark etc. The sound is fine.

All of the dip switches were off, except for 5 which was on.

Can someone suggest a quick solution?

    TIA,

    Bill

Sounds like your source video is protected by Macrovision which is a copy protection.

Yeh, it is an old Doctor Who VHS which is not available on DVD that I want to back up for personal use before my last VHS player bites the dust.

So how come I could copy these with the Dazzle, but not the Canopus?

        NM,

The Hollywood Dazzle in passthrough mode acts as a "video stabilizer". I guess it does not have the AGC chip.
