  • Color Bars

    Pre sales question:

The manual states: Color Bar Output Press and hold the INPUT SELECT button for three seconds to output color bars from the Analog output.
I take this to mean that the color bar signal is only available on the analog outputs. Color bars aren't available on the digital output? I would think that would be a valuable test/reference/troubleshooting signal to have.

Correct, color bars are only available on the analog outputs.
Digital color bars can be generated by most NLEs. For example, EDIUS has a number of bars you can add to the bin as clips.

Digital color bars are less useful than analog because the viewed result of digital color bars are influenced by both the digital decoder and the display device (color settings, etc), whereas the analog color bars are influenced only by the display device.

Thanks, put in that context it does make sense. Sorry, old analog guy here.

For the ADVC 300, I can't determine what the IRE levels are for the Color Bars?

Going from left to right, can someone list the IRE levels?

I can't determine if for instance the white is truly white (100 IRE) or if white is really grey (80 IRE). In the same way, can't determine if black is 0 IRE or if it's at 7.5 IRE.

The ADVC 300 manual doesn't seem to specify the type of Color Bars it shows. So, I don't know what to reference.

        Thanks!
