Will the ACEDVio improve my performance?

FireCoder only provides hardware-based MPEG-2/MPEG-4 encoding, it doesn't boost editing performance at all.

Specifically, the FireCoder - does it actually accelerate the editing process with hardware-based processing?

Of course, I should follow up Brandon's post by saying that EDIUS NX and SP's realtime DV hardware chip is only used within EDIUS NLE software, and not Ulead Video Studio (despite being able to support Video Studio in 'ADVC' mode).

If you're editing DV, the NX or SP boards will offload the realtime DV output work from the CPU, providing "live" DV output from the timeline without impacting the CPU(s).
If you're editing non-DV, then everything is CPU-dependent. The faster your system, the better.

Guest repliedThanks for you prompt reply.
So is there a card that will help with editing acceleration?

The ACEDVio is essentially a FireWire card that provides analog I/O as well. The board itself features no editing acceleration or MPEG encoding technology.

Will the ACEDVio improve my performance?
I've done a search on the forum and can't find the answer to my simple question. I was always told that there's no such thing as a stupid question so here goes... what does the ACEDVio actually do?
I can see all the inputs and outputs for capture but I'm not interested in that. I want something that can help speed up my editing. I currently do all my video editing with Ulead VideoStudio 11. I have a fast RAID disk and fast computer but I'm still frustrated by the few seconds wait everytime I hit the play button. It really adds to my editing time. Will this card help speed up my editing experience? Will the card do some MPEG wizardry instead of replying on the software to do it?
Thanks in advance,
