Firecoder with ADVC-300 - no live capturing?

Hi,

I have many VHS tapes I yet need to digitalize. Thus I wanted to use an ADVC-300 in combination with a Firecoder.
A store confirmed I can capture live into mpeg-2 with the Firecoder from the ADVC-300.

Now I read somewhere on this board this is not possible (!), that the DV input of the Firecoder merely is to get the DV input and then later transfer it to mpeg-2.

Is this true?? I would have to cancel my order as this really isn't what I wanted. It's just too many tapes that I have.

It is true - you cannot capture directly to MPEG-2, it is a two-step process.

It can only capture HDV MPEG-2 (which obviously, requires no conversion).
