Importing Analogue

The method I have used for years to import VHS footage to the Edius timeline via my Storm 2 card is to use a DV camera with analogue in/out and import via firewire. Most DV cameras have this ability. I connect the VHS to the camera with the analogue cable which was provided with each of my cameras and the camera to the Storm card by firewire cable as for normal DV capture. You will need to consult the manual for your camera as the menu settings for analogue to DV conversion will differ for different cameras.

You can usually connect these devices, however, you'll be subject to any anti-copy measures that have been implemented on the source devices (eg. Macrovision).

If you are talking about component the storm doesn't have component in.
it has component out only.

Dvd players have S video out so you can connect those via s video. Some models even have firewire you can connect via fire wire to the storm.

One other thing, has anybody tried using the above connections to plug any of the following to the DVStorm2?
satellite TV signal via the TV
DVD player
Cable TV box

all of these have RCA white, yellow and red output so I think it may work?

There are cheap vcr's that have S in even for pal.

look if you can find this one Sony slv ed 88 it is u$ 129 I think (pal/ntsc)
The whole slv ed series is pal ntsc with s out/in.

Since vhs is going south these recorders are harder to come by.

Typical VCR AV cables come in the triple RCA, yellow-white-red set. It's all about the colours..

Now this triple RCA lead is something you need to provide - we've never included analog cables. Time for a trip to Tandy or Dick Smith.

If you're capturing RCA composite video from a VHS deck, then there should be one or two little cables in your fit that are RCA female-to-7-pin miniDIN (S-Video shaped) male.

These cables are fairly short, about 10cm long. You plug the S-Video end into the Analog input of the DVStorm board, and then get any RCA male-to-male cable to hook the VCR up to this adapter cable..

Okay, I checked the installation manual and it shows how to do it with & without the Storm Bay. Only thing is that some of the cables are missing.
The Manual warns to only use the cables provided with the DVStorm, but I assume they're referring to the composite video adapter cables and the stereo audio cables only?

There's even one cable for S-Video connectivity that doesn't need any patch cables, it links directly into the VCR or TV. This cable is not included though.

Does Canopus sell these cables separately?

you don't need a break out box. The are 2 cables includes composite to S video. You can use those to connect to a vsh deck if it doesn't have S out or in.
It is well described in the manuals and quick connect literature.

Can the DVStorm2 /DVStorm2 Pro do analogue captures? (VHS to .avi)??
I've heard it can through the breakout box, but mine came without a breakout box. I honestly don't see how it could, since it's only got the firewire port
and the S-Video input plus two other inputs that look useless.
I am now considering getting an ADVC300, because I really want to convert my old VHS tapes to AVIs.
