Default Edius & P2

When using the source browser in Edius if usuing the add and transfer mode how long does it take edius ti add and transfer? Say you had a full P2 card of HD Pictures. Can you make two copies at the same time in Edius? I am thinking of reusing the cards on site so I will be deleting master rushes which you never had to do with tape. Does Edius export to a sufficient quality for Broadcast purposes and would it always ahve to be onot tape? Or does Edius keep the quality regardles of export medium i.e. disc of cards.

Not sure what you mean about making two copies at the same time, but if you meant copying two clips simultaneously, if it's from the same card, it may slow down significantly.

Memory cards and sticks in general suffer from greatly reduced performance when there's more than one operation happening on it.

I also don't really get the question in regard to copying but we don't alter the data during copy operation .
I regard to broadcast: EDIUS is used by many TV station worldwide who shoot P2 .

The P2/Edius workflow is pretty much the best in the business. Right now, using the Source Browser, you can only copy to the project folder. So you could not copy the same clip to 2 places at once. You can select a group of clips and Transfer and Add to Bin and they will do so sequentially. Not the best test in the world, but I did the above transfer to a series of 12 sec clips and each clip took about 3 sec to copy to the project folder. You will see a small H on the clip as it is copying.

If you need to transfer to 2 different drives. This is for you.
Works for me.

Thanks for all the replies even though I did not correctly spell out what i was about. Basically coming form a tape based era it was the unusualness of destroying rushes, i.e. on a normal shoot on a day one keeps all the rushes on tape. I find with going P2 that will not be possible. I envisage a morning two camera shoot and these rushes will have to be transferred to free up the P2 cards for use in the afternoon. Its the being hundred per cent sure of those rushes being stored safely hence making two copies possibly. The speed which Edius could transfer full P2 cards at HD quality would be paramount.Obviously there are many contented P2/Edius users out there I would be interested in you work flow system.

I use Panasonic AJ-PCD2 USB2 P2 card reader. It is very fast. After I video on my HPX172 - I drop the P2 card into the USB card reader - and copy the entire P2 card into my RAID5 hard-disk array. No need to use EDIUS - just normal Windows Explorer or equivalent.

Later - I will backup the P2 data to tape - Quantum SDLT tape drive.

That's how I handle my P2 data. You must remember - P2 (and all digital video) is bits and bytes - no longer the analog tapes of old.

You can approach your Panasonic video dealer - it is out in the market for almost one year.

I have to agree that we run into the same thing whether it be P2, SxS, or AVCHD. We have a rule that everything must be copied and verified to 2 separate drives before any card can be reformatted. All of this is done outside of Edius.
