Default Removing humming noise from audio

I have a project where I captured audio from several people. I did this by keeping the lens cap on (since I was not interested in the video) while having the people stand close to my XL1 camera and speak into the microphone. This was all done in a room that had no outside noise. Once I captured this audio and added it onto the timeline, I noticed that there is a distinct humming noise. It is too late to capture the audio over. I need to fix this in post. How do I do this?

I'm not yet on Edius 5. This project was created with Edius 3.61. I have two projects that were started with Edius 3.61 and I need to get them finished. Once I get to that point I will install Edius 5. I already have the new version but I don't want to install it while in the middle of my last two projects.

So how do I remove the humming from the audio in Edius 3.61?

Default Sound Soap

I think Edius 3 included Sound Soap. That will do a fine job of removing a constant background noise.

I use software called Adobe Audition and it is wonderful for this kind of editing. Consider this, you can down load a "freeware" "open source" product called AUDACITY http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ ---- Take a look at their manual that you can also download to understand how to isolate and remove this kind of noise.

Some but not all Edius 3 installations came with SoundSoap. Having said that, I've had very good success with SoundSoap, I find it easier to use and more effective than Izotope.

My only recommendation is to use the standalone version of SoundSoap and clean up the audio outside of Edius to avoid the 1024 sample delay that is introduced by using the VST. The standalone SoundSoap executable is not included with the SoundSoap that came with Edius, but you get it when you download the SoundSoap updates from the BIAS website.

Soundsoap is very good if you have a sample of the background noise with nothing else as you can 'learn' that sound. It works very well.
However whenever I use it in the timeline now it crashes Edius.
I tried to use the new Izotope thing but it didn't seem as easy to use :(
